Convergence

//www.youtube.com/get_playerA few words this afternoon on the topic of convergence. Not the kind of convergence that happens on the highway. And not convergence in terms of what happens with social media. Did not convergence like global domination of banks or anything like that. Convergence when everything happens all at once. A happier word for this might be coincidence. But coincidence, to me, offers up the possibility of rosier outcomes. I am talking about the you just got home from the grocery store and you promised the kids hot chocolate, because it's cold outside- and they want it right now, but you have to put the groceries away, or some of them at least, and it's about 11.45 so the kids are expecting lunch, which would be a nice pairing with hot chocolate, and you have to feed the baby because she is starting g to notice that she hasn't eaten in a while either and warming up the milk takes a few minutes, which is ok because the 2 year old is drawing on the walls, again, with the new markers that she got for Christmas And you need to put a stop to that and you need to take a leak. That kind of convergence.

And of I have learned anything today, my entire ability to deal with it has everything to do with how well I have predicted what is about to happen and how well I have prepared my 5 year old wing man for what is about to happen. The 2year old benefits from the advance notice as well. But not in the same way. Kind of more like a take it or leave it sort of level of basic awareness but not really caring kind of a way. The 5 year old is either the secret weapon on the weapon of mass destruction in all of this. An ally or a double cross. But its all up to me and how well I play the cards. Will I help braid Barbie's hair after lunch? Can she come upstairs for stories before nap time but not have to stay for nap? How well the negotiations are handled will dictate whether or not I have an ace in the hole or a fire in the hole.

If I had to pick the moment where things leveled off it would probably be when I agreed to let the 2 year old have porridge for lunch. So what if she also had it for breakfast. Oats are good for you. And if she is eating then she isn't drawing on the walls.

Convergence. My teacher of the day.
