Nothing quite says summer to me than single serving boxes of cereal. We had them as a kid, and while we've been staying with my parents for the past 10days, my own children have come to appreciate just how tasty these little boxes of goodness are. It's no coincidence that there is only one box of Raisin Bran in the variety pack. How can it really compete with Corn Pops, Rice Krispies, and Frosted Flakes??? It can't. Match up your favorite sugar cereal with some early morning Olympic boxing and your newly minted 3 year old red head is pretty much as happy as she gets. And what more can we ask for from life?
Watching the Olympics with the kids has been a fun. We've never had the TV on this much in their lifetime and I'm slightly concerned about the withdrawal they are going to experience when things wrap up on Sunday. But for now, I don't really mind the indulgence. They constantly want to know who to cheer for. They are thrilled to see Canada competing in just about any event. And ruby has recently entered a phase where everything, from drinking her milk to getting washed in the bath has become a race, so it's nice to have some people out there who are ok with, even happy about, finishing second or third. I'm not sure if that is getting through to her or not – I'm just hoping the Olympic spirit is rubbing off on her.
Anyway, it's been raining for 2 solid days now and we've been inside. At this point, we are still getting along quite nicely although I sense a bit of my own cabin fever just around the corner. And that may be why i didn't hesitate when ruby went after her second box of sugar cereal this morning. It was fun having that little couch potato sit on my lap and eat crunchy corn based sugary deliciousness while we watched replays from Canada's bronze medal soccer win. Although i think that, long term, she might be better suited to wrestling.
