Santa’s village

I dont suppose that it's a unique phenomenon, but whenever I go on vacation, I become less environmentally conscious. I don't sort my recycling as diligently as usual, I hardly compost anything, I feed the kids cheese strings, and I buy crap that I normally would never give a second glance.

Anyway, yesterday we went to Santa's Village. It's a theme park in muskoka, and we had an awesome day. Wet with friends, Paid the ridiculous admission charge, had the cotton candy for lunch and the ice cream cone for afternoon snack. It was a no holds barred kind of experience. And the kids loved every minute of it. Especially the unlimited access to the bouncy castle. Go figure.

They have a number of midway type very kid friendly games there and a “play until you win” policy at all of them. This means that, for $3/child, you can buy a piece of landfill – because that's all it really is- and your child can feel that shallow sense of instant gratification. Ring toss. Ball in the garbage can. Plinko. Magnetic fishing rods. Pick your poison. And I don't know why I went for it. But I did. And somehow, for me, this picture made compromising my values seem worth it…
