//www.youtube.com/get_playerThroughout the fall Thursday mornings have turned into a bit of an oasis for me. There is precious little time in the week when Arden and I can just hang out one on one. Monday's, for example, are all about grocery shopping and our little lunch club with a couple of other neighbourhood kids. Tuesday's are for streetcar rides (and the occasional doughnut). Wednesday's Arden and I go to a regular playdate. You get the picture – its a full schedule. And, truthfully, I wouldn't want it any other way. That said, Thursday's are nice because I get 45mins at the park with Arden all to myself.
As of late, she has taken a serious liking to the slide. Not that she's given up on the swing. In fact, I'm pretty sure shed be happy on the swing for hours on end. But the slide is relatively new for her and it's proving to be a hit. A few weeks back, I posted video of her at the top of the slide with me doing my best to encourage her to take the plunge and slide down on her own. And last thursday, she started going for it. She has figured out how to scooch herself forward past the point of no return and make the trip down the slide and she is quite pleased with the results!
Aside from the obvious pleasure I take in the joy she experiences going down the slide, there is, as always, my constant state of amazement at the fact that she figured out how to make it happen on her own. She watched other kids do it. She got pushed down the slide by me, her sisters, and a variety of neighbourhood kids, and somewhere in her mind last week, things sort of clicked into place and she figured out how to bypass the slow pull of gravity and get the thrill on her terms. Kind of a small achievement, in some ways, and in others, not so insignificant when you consider that this is a nice window for her into the world of cause and effect.
More smiles and squeals from the playground to follow.
