As the stay at home dad in a house of three daughters, i watch myself pretty carefully when it comes to using the word “Girly” to describe any particular activity. I don't want to limit anyone's perspective or opportunities or sense of self. I want to be open to whatever comes along. And I figure I have a long road of girl stuff ahead of me (pink bicycles, pink ice skates, pink back packs, etc.) so I need to be mindful of my mindset about the Girly stuff. That said, today Charlotte had a friend over after a morning of tobogganing and after lunch they sat down at our little project table, wrote secret notes to each other (observe the use of barriers in the middle of the table) and drew pictures of flowers and hearts all over the notes before they swapped the notes. Totally beautiful gesture of friendship and, as a former grade one teacher, it warms my heart to see my daughter and her friend writing by choice and helping one another to sound out words… But Seriously – how much more Girly could it get???
