Ruby is full steam ahead with the imaginary play. This particular video was taken 2 weeks ago on a perfect saturday afternoon. We were at the skating rink with some friends, the sky was slightly overcast, there was a light snow falling. It was cold enough to be winter and warm enough to be outside. And Ruby was doing what she does a lot these days – just playing around. She gave the skating a shot, and when she was done skating, she wasn’t at all interested in taking the skates off… she just wanted to play on her own.
In the two weeks since I took this video, I have observed her engaged in pretend play with the following things: 2 hair elastics, popscilce sticks, a fork and knife, and some pistachio shells. Not to mention the dolls and stuffed animals that she plays with. And there is one single universal theme: house. It is all house house house. There are variations – moms and kids, siblings, teenagers, and sometimes dads even make an appearance…
