Band aids

Some time ago, years in fact, Hil decided that, when it came to band aids, it just wasn’t worth the fight. I am not so liberal with these sticky little miracles, but maybe I should be. They appear to heal even the most minor of wounds immediately and seem to be extra effective when applied in layers of alternating colours. Personally, I’m not a big fan of band aids, probably because I remember a camp nurse from years ago give me a mini talk on the advantages of allowing small cuts to heal on their own and that the air was good for them and reduced the possibility of infection. Whatever, its not like my opinion counts for anything.
For a long time, we had the advantage of being able to dispense the band aids ourselves. Recently, this has changed as Charlotte has discovered that if she stands on a box that her grandfather made for her she can reach the top shelf of the cupboard where the band aids are stored. It was only recently that we discovered she was capable of getting the band aids herself although I am beginning to suspect that she has been aware of said box’s utility for some time.
The band aids in this picture are on Ruby’s toes. How the box of band aids migrated into her room at quiet time, we will likely never know. Regardless, as you can tell by the scrumpled appearance of the blue band aid on her left big toe, these particular band aids supplied their fair share of entertainment value during quiet time on this day. I think it will be some time yet before we can convince any of them that these devices are single use items and not meant to be peeled back every few moments for the purpose of checking on the progress of healing. Although, I do have a pet theory that dealing with the adhesive nature of the band aid over multiple applications has somehow contributed to an increase in the manual dexterity of our children. They can be tricky to deal with.
