Ruby turns 4 in a couple of weeks. And because we have a few things going on in our lives, we (and by we I mean my wife had the foresight and intelligence to plan ahead) hosted an early 4th birthday party for Ruby. It was all laid out to be a pretty simple affair. Being the creative and awesome parents that we are, we decided to go to the park, where there is a splash pad and lots of playground equipment, order a pizza, and let the kids run around in the heat. Pretty much the same plan as last year. And it worked like a charm.
The day started early. Hil baked cupcakes with the kids. And Arden ate icing for breakfast. With her Cheerios, of course.
Ruby decorated the cupcakes and there’s pretty much nothing more adorable than an almost four year old decorating cupcakes in her Tinkerbell nightie.
The number four shaped candle was a pretty important feature of the entire experience. Ruby pretty much insisted on having it in her line of vision through much of the day and the birthday party experience. Maybe she has a thing for even numbers.
Everyone gather round for happy birthday.
Arden’s language development is really coming along nicely. Today she learned the word “cupcake”. Perfect elocution. Like she’s been saying it all her life.
Today may just have been the hottest day of the entire year. There were warnings all day on the radio about reducing power consumption. The splash pad was pretty much the perfect venue.
This picture doesn’t really do the scene justice, but imagine a whole swing set filled with Ruby and her buddies all swinging and emitting sounds of joy at the same time. Pretty awesome.
This kid loves loves loves the water.
There is an outside chance that this may have been her second cupcake. Or her third…
