Missing baby

Way back when Arden was a baby my mom gave her a very soft doll that she completely treasures. Hil and I have, from time to time, expressed our concern to one another about this particular doll. We have no particular concerns about the actual doll – our concern is that we only have the one. Ruby and Charlotte both have several soft blankets that they sleep with. In a pinch, when travelling, or when we liberate them to be washed, we can get by with just one blanket. But for Arden it has only ever been about this doll and because it is her single most favourite thing on this planet and because she pretty much takes it every where she goes, if we loose it, we are kinda hosed.

Well, it was missing for about a week. We knew it was in the house because we saw it in her hands one moment and it was gone the next. Search as we may, and our house is pretty small, we could not locate baby. And we’ve been paying the price in the sleep department. She is waking up in the middle of the night and not settling well without her baby.

So this morning Hil did the early shift, taking the kids to the bus and running the morning milk table at the school and I stayed home to do a number of things around the house before heading to the office. Dishes. A little laundry. And then the garbage. Imagine my (gag) relief when I found baby at the bottom of the diaper pail. She went through the wash twice today but she still smells faintly of diapers – I have her back to Arden all the same. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a better sleep now that she’s back.
