One of the challenges of traveling is you forget what day it is – I know, serious hardship but it throws me off my game when I keep having to calculate what date or day of the week it is because I’m not in front of a computer all day. As Drew reminds me, I could also start wearing a watch again but I like living on the edge.
We’ve had a couple of great days in Siem Reap checking out all kinds of temples and ruins (along with several with LOTS of tourists) but we’ve found pockets of space to sit and reflect with the girls on what they are seeing. Looking at something that was built in 650 BC is such a strange concept to wrap your head around – especially when it is still standing and you know the builders of the structure did not have the advantage of machinery, let along electricity or master planning (but probably no building permits required…that should have saved some time). We’ve talked about how Ankgor Wat and the surrounding temples were built by slaves and thousands of people would have died in the process – all heavy stuff. We took the girls to the museum to read about the history – major fail! Boring! Plus the low lighting and jet lag were a bad combo. But once we got on our Tuk-Tuk and got to climb on the ruins, it got our juices flowing (the fresh fruit also helped).
We’ve sampled some amazing Cambodian food and beer (Charlotte had her first beer too) and can’t believe how much we’ve seen in a such a short period of time. Jet lag continues to wreak havoc at 1 AM, 3 AM, 4 AM, 5 AM, etc…but hopefully a few more days will help us get on the right schedule.

Wow, sounds amazing! Girls look great in the pics at the temple.
Now that I know C likes beer, I’ll be sure to stock the Cottage. New shopping list adds it to cheese toast and berries.
Kiss them all for me!

We love your pictures ginger snaps! Is that root beer charlotte is drinking? Also, were these the ruins that were buried in the jungle for centuries? Great write up Hil, and good luck battling the jet lag, Turnbulls
