Amazing first day visiting amazing human achievements. Everything we have read about the majesty and wonder of the temples is true. Ancient cities constructed in jungles where the source of the main building materials (sandstone, laterite, and granite) was over 50km away. Structures that were constructed over 1000 years ago that reach 50m+ above ground level. Moats that would better be described As lakes. And everything perfectly aligned east to west and north to south. Astonishing. Captivating. We were filled with a deep sense of awe.
Our first stop was Banteay Srei- the pink stone temple – also a temple dedicated to women. So perfect for the girls. They climbed all over the place and explored most of the nooks and crannies. Two independent groups of fellow tourists asked to take pictures of the 3 Ginger Snaps.

Then on to Neak Pean- a smaller temple that had to be accessed by a narrow causeway which crossed an impressive lake.

Then on to Prah Khan. For sure the highlight of the day. Many more nooksnand crannies to discover, trees growing right into the temple stonework, lots of climbing, incredible use of materials, magnificent carvings, and a flat tire on the tuk tuk which made for a very interesting road side stop where we learned a few things about taking it all in stride.

That’s awesome

Awesome. Mike and I (sans kids, 15 years ago) said that Cambodia was our fave SE Asian country to visit. Enjoy!
