Cooking class #2 by Drew

Hil set herself up with a little alone time today while the gingersnaps and I headed off to a Vietnamese cooking class.

In addition to cooking for very tasty dishes, We had the chance to experience and authentic Vietnamese market, wear traditional hats, and had a short ride through a Palm grove in round boats.

We returned to our guest house completely stuffed and with one very important new discovery: Ruby likes shrimp! Always fun to discover something new and it is great news as shrimp are widely used in Vietnamese cuisine.

We had a go at milling, sifting, and processing rice into rice milk.

There was loads of shopping, pounding, frying, and grilling to be done. And we learned a few things about the delicate process of working with rice paper.

For me, the highlight of the cooking class was when Ruby and Charlotte declared themselves to be food stylists while putting the finishing touches on their grilled pork salad. That shout out is for you grandma!

Throw in a nap, some school work, and an amazing dinner out and you have yourself a full day. Thank you, Hoi An!

  1. This is an awesome post, one of your best so far, with great pics.

Pls tell the girls I’m buying 3 traditional Vietnamese hats and that they can cook a Vietnamese dinner (with shrimp) this summer at the Cottage. Grandma and I are looking forward to great and beautifully presented food!!

    Love you all
