Turtle camp, days 1 & 2: rain, no turtles yet

Up at 6am to patrol the beach for fresh nests with char. No turtles nested last night.

We feel right at home here. The place is a camp. Right down to the bunk beds and the leaky toilets. Managed to fix the toilet quickly.

One of the best things about these volunteer projects is the structure and the sense of purpose. The kids got right into the chores today.

Another great element of these projects is the mix of people you meet from all over the world. The ginger snaps love meeting new people and making new friends and it is powerful when an adult who is a stranger teaches you something new. We continue to be amazed by the kindness and generosity of the people we meet along the way on this trip.

Really fascinating presentation on corals this afternoon. Today was so full of learning. Hoping that the sun comes out tomorrow and we can do some snorkelling – but there is a typhoon that just hit Australia and I think we might getting the tail end of it. The forecast is lousy.

  1. Camp Leader Rooster is back (cue music for AC/DC ‘Back in Black’)!!! The Tomini and Turnbull kids will be flying in on Monday for a week with super turtle camp experts – 5 ‘snaps. Taxi, I am sure you will pick up the 6 campers at the closest airport….wherever that may be. April Fools!
Love the turtle facts by the girls. Hard to believe a female turtle can’t lay eggs until around 20 years old?!
Keep fixing toilets and notch some graffiti in those bunk beds…..something along the lines of, ‘super Snaps rockin Southeast Asia and turtle camp 2017!’ Draw a ukelele in their too Rooster.
