Why did the elephants cross the road?

Look close at the Elephant in the lead and you’ll notice that she looks pretty hungry. Now look even closer and below her and you can see the 2month old calf that we caught a few glimpses of on yesterday’s safari in Uda Walawe National Park. Cutest little trunk you ever did see.

These elephants live in a park with about 500 other elephants and all kinds of other animals including birds of all description, water buffalo, crocodiles, jackles, tortoise, mongoose, snakes and all kinds of stuff we didn’t see. The park is 40,000 hectares in size. Most professional baseball fields are around 1 hectare in size. The park is bordered by a large reservoir. Interesting conversation at dinner about whether or not these animals are wild.

  3. Alec’s vote is that they live in the wild – defined by no cement lake or fake trees. Proof we are living through your adventures and not the zoo. Amazing trip, we love ready your posts so much. Les, Graydon, grant and alec

    1. Joyners! Thanks for following along. Alec – thanks for the deep thinking. I think you are right – the elephants at this national park pretty much go wherever they want because they can! Although the mother needs to keep that baby away from the crocs. The baby was about the same size as a full grown golden retriever and would make a quick meal for a croc! Looking forward to catching up with your family sometime this summer.
