//www.youtube.com/get_playerSo I know that, at 5 years old, charlotte is far too young to be placed in a supervisory role for her baby sister. That being said, every now and then I have a need to step out of the room for a moment and this was one of those occasions. The 2 year old…… Continue reading Bad parenting good outcome

More work with my kids
I am becoming increasingly curious about the role of real world jobs for children. Having been a teacher for 4 years I am doing some reflection on this topic within the context of my own classroom. Jobs as simple and important as cleaning the floor or the windows. Today I had the winter tires put…… Continue reading More work with my kids
Convergence
//www.youtube.com/get_playerA few words this afternoon on the topic of convergence. Not the kind of convergence that happens on the highway. And not convergence in terms of what happens with social media. Did not convergence like global domination of banks or anything like that. Convergence when everything happens all at once. A happier word for this…… Continue reading Convergence
Awesome sounds
//www.youtube.com/get_playerSomewhere in the last ten days or so – Arden has found her voice. I'm not sure exactly when it happened but all of a sudden edge was just more vocal then she was before. Almost as though something went off inside her head that told her it was time to pipe up. And, to…… Continue reading Awesome sounds
This sweater is now 2 for 2
As in: the last 2 times I've put it on fresh out of the laundry it has been covered in baby barf within the first 10 minutes of having it on. I was warned by many that barf was an occupational hazard. They were all correct. Body fluids, in general, are everywhere.
The dishwasher
I’m feeling a little virtuous this afternoon. I fixed the dishwasher.I’ll be honest. It has taken me about 6 weeks, maybe 8, since I was first informed of its malfunctioning to get the repair done. But researching things online takes time. And if you stack my $42.56 in parts up against the Maytag Man’s parts +…… Continue reading The dishwasher
Ruby is learning to surf
//www.youtube.com/get_playerI find that I am constantly having to make decisions about what, and what not, I should let my kids do. The opportunities for choking hazards, conclusions, stitches, and general scrapes and bruises seem limitless. At the same time, I figure they are learning important life lessons and maybe a few skills along the way.…… Continue reading Ruby is learning to surf
Teaching my kid to do an unfun job
One week ago there was a family event at our church. Everyone was invited to come to the church on a Friday night and help decorate the sanctuary for Christmas. Not the flashiest of Friday night plans but for a guy like me with a few young kids – its just what I need. Dinner…… Continue reading Teaching my kid to do an unfun job
Learningto use my iPhone
This afternoon on the way home I sat in the backseat with Charlotte and watched her mess around with my iphone. She was clearly hooked. She took this picture of my scarf on my knee. She took. Ideas of Arden sleeping. She typed words that she knew how to spell. When will she ask me…… Continue reading Learningto use my iPhone
