First, We went to the market to get out ingredients. We traveled by tuk tuk. We saw watermelon, carrots, fish, potatoes, tomatoes, beans, pumpkin, scotch bonnets, spiced, papaya, cabbage, and mango. Time flies when you are picking strawberries…by Hil
Some days we pack so much into a day, it’s hard to share it all, especially when we don’t have a good internet connection. So here are some pics from our day trips in the Cameron Highlands – while these pictures are only a week old, it feels like a lifetime ago. We were thrilled…… Continue reading Time flies when you are picking strawberries…by Hil
Unawatuna
Today we took the train from Colombo to Unawatuna. For me, this was probably the most intense day of travel we have experienced yet. You conjure up certain pre-conceived notions of the costal line train ride and then you get to the train station and you realize just how totally and completely naive you are…… Continue reading Unawatuna

How did the Easter Bunny know that we needed some hair clips? We’re organized for the Mossy Forest tour so…… Continue reading Easter in the Cameron Highlands (better late than never) by Hil
New Lane Hawker Stalls
All the travel writing on Penang is about the food. There is other interesting stuff in the city. Nice gardens. Spacious public parks. Good walking and shopping. (shopping malls are massive in Malaysia. And very popular. I think because of the heat.) The funicular. But really – this place seems to be all about the…… Continue reading New Lane Hawker Stalls
Fenicular – by Charlotte
In this pic you can see a chair and a foot rest. This is what people used in the old days to go up the hill. It can take up to 5 hours! This is us leaving the station. This is us on the little car. This is us going up up and away. You…… Continue reading Fenicular – by Charlotte
Penang Hill
Spent the day exploring the funicular at Penang Hill. Stay tuned for a detailed description of the workings of the funicular from Charlotte. Dinner at the world famous Gurney Drive hawker stalls. So much choice. So little time. That’s a real Scorpion on Charlotte’s hand.
Repair Kit
After 2 summers of camp directing and 3 months of heavy wear and tear on the road, my Tevas gave out. On the bright side, this was the perfect opportunity to get out the repair kit!
