Sweeping meditation

I could probably sweep up the kitchen and dining room floors twice a day but I tend to only make the effort once a day following supper when I am doing the final kitchen clean up for the evening. Recently, I've been trying to take a little pleasure in this task. There is something highly ritualistic that about the process of sweeping the same floor in the same way at the same time every single day that lends itself well to a meditative experience. It's a nice way to round out my day. I also enjoy it because of the story it tells. Stickers are pretty standard in the pile at the end of the day as the girls enjoy a little arts and crafts time most evenings before supper. Cheerios also fall in this category – although there are two sub categories of cheerios: ones that Arden threw overboard at breakfast and ones that arden chewed and then threw overboard at breakfast. The tomato stems are from some of the last cherry tomatoes that we will harvest from the garden this year. My dad brought the gourd over when he came by to see the girls when the finished school and stayed for dinner and bedtime stories. The dinosaur I can't really explain except to say that ruby has a growing collection of small plastic animals that seem to move about the house like something from the movie Toy Story and the blue angry bird popper seems to have a similar mystical ability.
