Our first Jungle trek – by drew

We have some serious jungle treks in our future – especially when we get to elephant camp and some of the national parks we will be visiting in Vietnam.

We have done some city walking so far on this trip but it really doesn’t compare to what our experience will be like once we get into the woods. And, much to my delight, but not to my surprise, my kids vastly prefer walking through the forest than walking through the city.

On our last day on the island Koh Rong Samloem we had it off in search of a beach that we have been hearing about a week. Nearly deserted beach where we would supposedly feel as though we had the place entirely to ourselves. We were not disappointed.

The highlight of the afternoon was probably the chapter of Harry Potter that we read together with the backdrop of waves lapping at the beach. Although, if your name is Arden, then the highlight of your afternoon was eating chips out of your hat.

And here is Aunt Hil with an ant hill. Not the biggest one we saw on our afternoon trek by far – but we were advised not to go off the trail as there are more than a few snakes in the jungle. Plus, we just did not want to get too close to the ant hills themselves as we had a few encounters with the ants and they are fierce!

  1. Terrific adventure!! Snakes and stinging ants! Any lions or tigers or bears?? No alligators though. Are you using the invisible alligator repellant I use at the cottage to keep them away?

  2. Glad to see Arden is gaining experience eating chips on beaches and docks near and far. Add it to her list of snack eating skills! She is really quite experienced in the field. I bet she could set a world record for fastest response time to the sound of a crinkly bag opening! Snacks anyone?!

p.s. Please don’t let the snakes eat her as a snack!
