Arugam Bay and East Surf Cabanas by Hil

So much to catch up on as we haven’t been able to post much lately.

We arrived in Arugam Bay from Nuwara Eliya via car and were warmly welcomed by Rafaella and her husband Sudu at East Surf Cabanas – a lovely, small hotel. The food was AMAZING and we had a lovely cabana with lots of room and a super outdoor shower!

We dumped our stuff and headed off to the beach.

This cow walked by – I guess he was thirsty and needed a drink from the ocean.

On our second day, we decided to venture out for a Jungle BBQ – it turned out to be one of our best nights! We took a jeep into the jungle and saw lots of wildlife – elephants, painted storks, crocodiles, peacocks, lizards and a cobra! Below is a shot of us watching a large group of elephants wandering along the shore line of the reservoir.

Once we arrived at the BBQ spot, Sudu got to work building the BBQ fire with empty coconut shells – we collected wood for a small fire. The Snaps had no problem collecting firewood!

It was 2 days away from the full moon so we ate under the moonlight. It was really special – the pictures don’t capture the experience and especially how great the prawns and fish tasted cooked over the coconut shells.

And a few more family shots. Thanks for the photo-bomb Charlotte!

What a day!

  2. Wow. Another amazing adventure. Glad you had dinner in the jungle and didn’t become dinner for the crocodiles!

  3. That poor cow looks hungry, not thirsty.

The gingersnaps are looking amazing. What an adventure and treat to see all of those animals in the wild.
