5am brought mist draped peaks, egg sandwiches, and a hooded driver.
We skirted Sri Lankan hillsides by van,

The sun rose, stencilled the clouds in silver
And the dry gravel of an ancient lakebed crunched beneath our feet.

Along with 4 litres of water, 4 Granny Smith apples and spirits warmed by the morning sun,

We carried our choices with us.
Over streams
And beneath a canopy of foreign song
And we arrived at World’s End.

How often do we really encounter a hard edge?
The mundane nature of our daily decisions insulates us from the universe of parallel universes
That reaches out before us with each passing choice
Great or small.
All the alternate pathways seemed visible to us
From the elevated perspective of our summit.
I would try harder to release my choices
So that they could drift out over the valley
Mix with the vapours
And be airlifted on a spiritually emulsified updraft.
Then eventually,
They could fall with the condensate
And settle with the sediments
Inert
At rest
Compressed for safe keeping.
When some wayward glacier or errant thought or corrosive lichen
And releases them
Back into the stream.
