Counsel with Owl and Loon

As I lie beneath the splendour

Of the galaxy played out before me

Exposed toes chilled
Back on granite warmed by celestial radiation
I take counsel with Owl and Loon

They remind me to look up
And take comfort in the truth
That the universe
Is a relatively stable place

Our meditation is interrupted:
Barking dogs
The din of 4 stroke marine engines
Mosquitos seeking to secure their genetic legacy
And
The thin vibration of ambient light

From darkness
I am reminded that patience often prevails
And so I wait
Time passes
Disruptive energy is absorbed all around me:
Water plants sway
Docks creak
Boat bumpers squish
And once again
Silence sits atop the lake
And creates a suitable medium
Owl and Loon call out to me
And command me to refocus my attention

I have since counted six satellites
And it occurs to me
That much like the space junk that defines the perimeter of our existence
A similar density of debris
Orbits the far reaches of my mind.
