Winter tire time

On Sunday I was struck by the passage of time.

In our family, late summer through to early fall always entails the overtaking of many milestones. Wife, daughters, father, niece, and brother, all celebrate birthdays.

For that matter, so do I, and this year I surpassed 40.

Birthdays are followed by wedding anniversary = 14 years and growing stronger.

Lump in meet the teacher night, Thanksgiving weekend, swimming lessons, and the Terry Fox Run

and no one could be faulted for seeing it all together in one big blur.

Why then did I take pause on Monday afternoon while loading the snow tires into the back of the van?

Did it have anything to do with the optimism with which I stacked them at the bottom of the hill and carefully tarped them on a warm morning in mid June? An entire summer of canoe rides, barbecues, road trips, and starry nights in front of me.

And now an entire summer of campfires, good books, picnics, and solar eclipses behind me.

Perhaps.

Perhaps all that and more.

  1. Happy 40th Drew! Time doesn’t slow down for anyone eh.
    Anytime you want to stay over and have a beer with alison and I, and dinner with he whole gang, you are more than welcome at our humble home in east York. The kids would love to see you too. There is a pullout couch and 3 piece bathroom in the basement with little action on weekdays….

  5. I enjoy your posts. Speaking of winter tires – I discovered GO TIRES and I love it. They come to my house, switch the tires and I do not have to do a thing!
